When Your Supervisors Not So Super

Let's face it - we all eventually have to work somewhere, whether it be for ourselves or as a employee in another individuals establishment. I for one have worked in many jobs. Time and time again, the one recurring issue I seemed to run into was problems with management. Lazy management, sleazy managers, lying managers, uncaring managers, managers who only care about the bottom line - I've worked for them all. But nothing has surprised me more than my current experience working.

Now I can't say straight out the company I work because at this time - I need my job. What I can say is that I didn't expect so much hatred, shenanigans and outright lying on the part of none other than management themselves. It makes for a miserable time at work and at times my fingers itch to dial that call in line and stay at home.

So what makes a good supervisor or manager?

A 1999 survey, sent to about 300 faculty at Cornell university entittled Characteristics that Make a Good Supervisor had several themes that ran throughout..  Not surprisingly, those themes tended to include some of the basic, human characteristics that we all desire:
