I am Not My Hair

This week we asked you to write about hair. So many of us have a love-hate relationship with it. For some of us, it’s our defining feature. Whatever it means to you – or to your characters – we want to know about it.But we don’t want you to simply describe it. We want you to use it as a vehicle to tell us something about your character, a situation, you or your life. And you needed to keep it to 300 words.

My hair used to be thick. I HATED combing it.  Instead of actually combing it, I would kind of run the comb through the ends of it leaving the roots all thick, tangled and nappy - yep - nappy.  I had a LOT of hair.

My senior year in high school I cut it all off and noticed I had a bald spot.  Whatever, didn't really concern me.  I ignored it.  Twelve years later my head resembles that of the little cute old church lady who sits on the first pew who has carefully coiffed what little strands she has left.

I would love to have my hair back.  Despite that fact that I look kinda cute in hats, I don't want to wear them for the rest of my life.

I'm embarrassed to go to a hair dresser, scared that they won’t know what to do.  I'm too broke to go to a hair stylist who knows EXACTLY what to do.  I am kind of stuck.

I have no idea if my hair will grow back.  I can't afford the good doctors for a clear diagnosis.  I guess wigs are my only answer.  I have had some good ones, like that below.

I even shaved my head completely one year.  It was weird.
Ladies, take care of your hair.  Most women take their hair for granted.  Then it starts falling out and we realize just how important our hair can be to us.  A woman's hair is her glory - that quote cannot be more true.

I used to think that passage in the bible was just for me....you know the one where it talks about sinning and your hair and teeth falling out because of the sin??  LOL.  They were talking about me.  At least my teeth didn't fall out.
