I am Not My Hair

This week we asked you to write about hair. So many of us have a love-hate relationship with it. For some of us, it’s our defining feature. Whatever it means to you – or to your characters – we want to know about it.But we don’t want you to simply describe it. We want you to use it as a vehicle to tell us something about your character, a situation, you or your life. And you needed to keep it to 300 words.

My hair used to be thick. I HATED combing it.  Instead of actually combing it, I would kind of run the comb through the ends of it leaving the roots all thick, tangled and nappy - yep - nappy.  I had a LOT of hair.

My senior year in high school I cut it all off and noticed I had a bald spot.  Whatever, didn't really concern me.  I ignored it.  Twelve years later my head resembles that of the little cute old church lady who sits on the first pew who has carefully coiffed what little strands she has left.

I would love to have my hair back.  Despite that fact that I look kinda cute in hats, I don't want to wear them for the rest of my life.

I'm embarrassed to go to a hair dresser, scared that they won’t know what to do.  I'm too broke to go to a hair stylist who knows EXACTLY what to do.  I am kind of stuck.

I have no idea if my hair will grow back.  I can't afford the good doctors for a clear diagnosis.  I guess wigs are my only answer.  I have had some good ones, like that below.

I even shaved my head completely one year.  It was weird.
Ladies, take care of your hair.  Most women take their hair for granted.  Then it starts falling out and we realize just how important our hair can be to us.  A woman's hair is her glory - that quote cannot be more true.

I used to think that passage in the bible was just for me....you know the one where it talks about sinning and your hair and teeth falling out because of the sin??  LOL.  They were talking about me.  At least my teeth didn't fall out.

NO MORE RAZORS

Yuck - while my husband was away - mousy me came out to play. I needed to shave my hair off again because I noticed that when I have hair, my scalp tends to develop this ever growing flaking problem - ewww.......so you know me. I had asked my hub to help me shave it off before the holidays but he had other stuff to do. I ended up trying to shave it off with his clippers but they wouldnt work so I ended up using a combo or one of my shavers and two of his beard shavers/trimmers.

This was not good..........I see men all the time with that nasty razor bumb/burn - never thought I would get it but surprise! Now the left side of the back of my neck looks nasty bumpy and I am continously washing my head and moisturizing it to help them go away....

Sheesh!

On a brighter note - I GOT A JOB - downside - I am going to quit blogging for a while.....awwww like anyone really reads what I have to say anyway. You hear me though God, dont you?

Toodles Folks!

Ok - really dont eat so many cupcakes.......

You could get sick and truth be told......you could get fat....like me. Anyway, oh blog of mine - how I have neglected thee.  My hair on the other hand has been alright. I have a fuzzy top and it really irritates me when I have a hat on....it rubs and feels weird........nuff of that. I havent found my box of hats yet.....GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! As soon as I find them I am going to put them up - AGAIN - where I can find them. I am also going to have another session at Chet Bano de NayLah

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?? I HAVE A FOLLOWER! Ms. Chantelle bless you darling! Lady Chantelle, that angel from Fat.Mum.Slim is my first follower! Her blog is HILLARIOUS. I am so mad though that I am not in Australia right now. How wonderful that would be and I noticed on her site that she follows some wonderful ladies who are fighting the bulge. One such lady that I am mucho jealous of right now is Prior Fat Girl WOW! I asked her to be my role model but I havent gotten an answer yet. I need to lose about 100 pounds. So far I have lost 5lbs but those were stressed induced and will be back with 5 more friends if I decided to inhale some cupcakes.......ok - so I am just going to eat e-cupcakes, you know to combat the fat.

Anyway - blog updated, typing done, signing off until next go round.

Bald in the Family

So....since cutting my hair last week I have felt really..........free. I had my little half of a fro going on. Some days I was really fierce with my modelesque do and other days I looked liked a drug addict....go figure. But all and all I was dealing with it. Believe it or not the portion of my scalp that is "healthy" actually does grow and since I did not graduate from beauty school - my mini fro was lopsided. Hey - I cut the right side way better than the left so if you could imagine the 90s version of the gumby cut but on a much smaller scale - that was me. My husband - love that he is volunteered to help me out. He started off at the back evening everything out and moved up to the middle and that is where the fun began. Let's just say that I ended up with a patch.......one that was not natural and from that point on - I became one smooth headed lady. So now I am COMPLETELY hair free and freezing my but off - WHY DIDNT ANYONE TELL ME THAT NOT HAVING HAIR CREATES MOCK ANEMIA - COLD CHILLS AND ALL!????? It is freezing and I have to sleep with a beenie cap on because all of my body heat keeps escaping through the top of my head.

Yatta! The first change

I did it. I cut my hair off. So what you say? Nothing special about that but it was special to me. For years I have been losing my hair in what doctos would probably call female pattern baldness. I dont think that is what is ailing me though. Anyway - so I shaved it off with my hubs clippers. I almost cried but then I thought about how much stress my hair causes me everyday. How I hate looking in the mirror - putting on those stupid wigs - trying to figure out when if ever I will be able to stop wearing wigs. I hate it. It was causing me too much stress so I cut it off and I decided that I am going to quit wallowing and start walking.

Walking in my faith in God. He said that I am fearfully and wonderfully made - yep - overweight baldheaded me. It also says in the bible that a womans hair is her glory - well Glory Hallelujah - I let go of something that was holding me back for almost 9 years. So now what is the plan? Go to the doc and see what is up with my hair and why it keeps falling out.

I know there are thousands of women out there who suffer from hair loss and I am not telling anyone to do something as drastic as cutting all of your hair off - I just needed to take the first step. What I am saying is that there is help and support out there - you just have to know where to start cutting.
